Given the high priority that the obtaining of new selections of commercial interest has for the research in the field of agriculture, this line of work is in charge of the generation and characterization of collections of possible mutants created in several programs of mutagenesis of citrus and rice. These studies have two complementary purposes. On one hand, novel or advantageous characteristics are persecuted from an agronomic point of view, with the purpose of obtaining in a fast way improved plant material and, on the other hand, these mutants constitute unique model systems that will allow the isolation and characterization of citrus and rice genes of agronomic interest. At the present time we have a collection of approximately 5000 possible mutations in citrus and 3000 ones in rice.

General objectives:

·        Obtaining of collections of mutants with phenotypes of agronomic and physiological interest

·        Physiological and agronomic evaluation

·        Selection of the mutations of interest.

·        Molecular, cellular and physiological characterization.

·        Identification of the mutations by means of genomic and molecular technologies
