Horticulture
The functions of this department are to carry out
research and experimentation to solve problems that may affect
the horticultural sector, focusing their efforts basically on
strawberry, having already obtained two registered varieties,
and in the process of commercial multiplication, under sufficient
and inexpensive climatization of greenhouses, and in the multiplication
and conservation of four native varieties, to prevent their
complete disappearance.
- Plant material in horticulture
- The objective is to obtain, from some horticultural
species, new varieties perfectly adapted to the ecological conditions
of the Valencian Autonomy, and to improve and conserve the native
plant material; this is intended to diversify the commercial supply,
increase quality, to fit the market requirements and prevent genetic
erosion in Horticulture.
- Cultivation methods
- The aim is to develop production systems in ornamental
and edible horticulture, through new techniques, allowing a better
control of the conditions (soilless culture), to introduce new
crops, more adaptable to the Mediterranean conditions, and protection
techniques, and climate manipulation.
